At one time all gay men were ‘queens’ or so the pop mythology goes. You can tell that the skinny guy looking on with sharp displeasure is a nelly faggot. He has those eyes. I think some gay paperback covers were trying to suggest the guy was wearing eyeliner or that was how gay men looked. Really this guy looks more like he’s been punched in the eye.

The two young men kissing in the foreground look conventional enough. Was it a story of ‘normal’ gay men dealing with a hostile queer queen?
