Edge of Seventeen

» Gay Themed

Just watched Edge of Seventeen. I think it was the first coming out movie I’ve seen since I started watching gay movies with Charles. I still felt like I’d seen many. Likely because I’ve read it so many times in novels and books. And it used to be one of the first stories two young gay men would share.

I thought Eric’s story was well and warmly told; couldn’t help sympathizing and caring for him. And I’ll admit to being weakened by how he looked in his New Romantic drag (always had a weakness for boys in make-up). It was nice that all the clichés used, say, in Justin’s (QAF) story: angry father, getting beaten up were skipped. Those things happened to too many people but they don’t need to be in every coming out story.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Edge of Seventeen. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
